Meetings
A meeting was held in Toronto on August 27, 2001 to coincide with the CIM
Conference of Metallurgists convention. About 30 CAMIRO-MPD members and
potential members heard updates on the organization and the several
projects. Most of the principle researchers for the projects were in
attendance and made presentations. The general presentation made at the

We are delighted to
welcome Agnico - Eagle to this project which now has eight sponsors.
Additional sponsors or partial sponsors would be very welcome.
The 6th Steering
Committee Meeting was held in Montreal on June 19th, 2001. The meeting
was attended by about a dozen metallurgists from sponsor companies and
a similar number of McGill staff and researchers. McGill made six
presentations followed by discussions and laboratory visits and
demonstrations.
The meeting also
considered the possibility of a one year extension to the project.
This was agreed to and NSERC funding has been successfully applied for
and the new program has commenced. The total value of the project is
about $470,000.
Jan Nesset's presentation on this project, made to the
2001 CMP conference can be viewed on the Presentations page. |

The aim of the project is to develop an optical sensor that will reliably and
economically distinguish between different mineral concentrates as slurries.
Phase 1 of the project, literature survey, has been completed and the
experimental work is now under way at Lakefield Research. We have three
sponsors at this time, Billiton, Noranda, and Teck, but the project is still
open to additional full or partial sponsors. |

The Steel Chip Removal project has been awarded to MacPherson/Lakefield while
the project to investigate and optimize the Field Precipitation of
Neutralization Sludges has been awarded to a consortium including Lakefield,
CANMET and Senes. Research agreements and the scope of work for each
project are now being finalized. Both projects need additional sponsors to
ensure that they will proceed. |
